In 2008, Laurie Freeman and Jim Strickland purchased an 1885 Victorian house in Gloversville, NY with the aim of developing innovative techniques to bring older structures into the 21st Century in terms of comfort and energy efficiency.  Jim and Laurie will provide a wealth of detail on tightening up the shell, retrofitting insulation, adding energy-efficient appliances, adding solar electric and solar hot water, and edible landscaping, all while preserving the home's charm: a true urban homestead.

Elizabeth Benjamin, Scythe Supply, will demonstrate proper usage and sizing for scythes and sickles, as well as discuss proper sharpening and oiling techniques for your hand tools.
