John Gorzynski grows over 60 varieties of apples, 12 varieties of pears, and a wide variety of berries, all without the use of sprays on his farm. In addition to careful selection of fruit stock for heartiness, beneficial insects play an integral role in the health of the fruit at Gorzynski Ornery Farm. John will walk visitors through the different insect habitats on the farm and explain his strategies for encouraging populations of beneficials. A carefully-timed schedule of cover crops, the use of flowering plants, and on-farm seed production will be discussed, as well as other strategies for managing pests and diseases in organic fruit production. Bring a dish and your own place setting for the potluck afterwards!
Gorzynski Ornery Farm produces over 500 varieties of vegetables, 150 varieties of fruit, a selection of small grains, and poultry on 25 acres. John and Sue Gorzynski have been growing organically since 1976.
