Efficiency and Equanimity: Caring for Land, Making a Living

Event Details

Date:
September 15, 2011
Location:
Quail Hill Farm: 660 Old Stone Highway in East Hampton, NY
Time:
5:00pm-8:30pm (including Locavore potluck supper)

Over the past twenty-two years, Quail Hill Farm has gracefully approached the issue of growing their farm operation to meet the desires of the farm’s founders, community and current farmers and employees. Scott Chaskey will give visiting farmers a tour of the farm while explaining the all-important issues of scale and farm growth (based on available labor, finances, supplies, equipment and farm values and goals). Scott will explain Quail Hill Farm’s assessment of each season’s challenges and successes, and will engage attendees in an introspective activity to guide them through making decisions about future farm activities on their own farms, including marketing strategies and activities to provide economic stability.

This event is geared toward farmers going through periods of growth and change, particularly those with newer farm operations looking to scale their farm for long-term success and sustainability.  Don’t miss this chance to learn from a true master of thoughtful farm marketing! There is parking on Deep Lane between Side Lane and Town Lane in front of the Quail Hill Farm sign.

In celebration of NOFA-NY’s Locavore Challenge (ongoing through the month of September) this workshop will be followed by a potluck supper.  All attendees are asked to bring food to share and their own place settings.
