Pasture, Hay, Forage Crop Insurance Webinar
Event Details
Join us for this Pasture, Hay, Forage Crop Insurance Webinar on 9/12/2011 at 7:00pm led by Fay Benson. USDA’s Risk Management Agency’s (RMA) pilot Group Risk Protection forage insurance program is now available in every county in New York State. The program, called the Pasture, Rangeland, Forage Rainfall Index, provides (from about $140) up to about $300 of protection per acre for hay, hay crop silage and up to $60 of protection for pasture. Base pasture and hay values are determined by county. This insurance coverage is only for a single peril – lack of rain. The webinar will discuss the ins and outs of pasture, hay, and forage crop insurance. Applications are due 9/30 for the 2012 growing season, so you don’t want to miss this opportunity to learn more about the program! Topics of discussion will include how to find your farm’s grid number, the positives of enrolling in crop insurance and provide specific information about working with crop insurance agents and figuring out if crop insurance is a good fit for your farm.
This webinar is sponsored by NOFA-NY, NYSDAM Crop Insurance Education Program, and USDA-RMA Small Sessions Program. Fay Benson is a member of the NYSDAM Crop Insurance Education Team. The mission of the team is to educate NY farmers about crop insurance and give them tools to decide if crop insurance would fit their farms.
