Location:
Field at the southeast corner of the Route 4 and Route 149 intersection in Kingsbury, NY
Time:
1:00pm-3:00pm

Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District and Cornell Cooperative Extension have teamed up for a field day on Friday, November 18, 2011 to demonstrate establishing cover crops in harvested corn fields that can be used for high-quality forage.  The Field Day will be in a field at the southeast corner of the Route 4 and Route 149 intersection in Kingsbury, (2 mi south of Fort Ann village) from 1 pm to 3 pm.

Cover crops have been used for decades to improve soil quality, an indirect benefit.  Why not get a direct benefit from cover crops, by harvesting them as high-quality forage for cattle?  A mix of triticale and annual ryegrass was planted with and without using aeration tillage to learn the best way to establish the cover crop.  The Aerway tillage tool will be on display at the Field Day.  See how aeration tillage affects establishment on a sloped field and discuss the feed quality of various cover crops
