Five Borough Farm is a Design Trust public program in partnership with Added Value and made possible through the generous support of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Project Overview
With New York City in the middle of an urban agriculture boom, the Design Trust for Public Space and Added Value are working to develop a citywide plan for urban agriculture. Our project, FiveBorough Farm, will survey and map New York City’s existing urban agricultural activity; develop a framework and tools to help all New Yorkers evaluate the many benefits of urban agriculture; and work with city agencies to ensure that government policies support, and do not inhibit, urban agriculture. To lead this work, the Design Trust has commissioned two Project Fellows: Nevin Cohen, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at The New School, and Rupal Sanghvi, a public health expert with over fourteen years experience with program evaluation.

Workshop
To kick off Five Borough Farm, the Design Trust will host a half-day meeting that brings together practitioners, advocates, and funders from around the city to introduce the project and start a conversation with participants around a few basic issues: Why do you do what you do? What are yourgoals for your project? How do you track what you do, and what do you wish you could track? Whatwould help you measure the benefits of what you do?

About the Design Trust
The Design Trust for Public Space (www.designtrust.org) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and understanding of New York City's public realm – from parks and plazas to streets and public buildings. Since its inception in 1995, the Design Trust has successfully completed more than two-dozen projects, improving the urban experience for all New Yorkers. Design Trust projects have made New York City’s parks and buildings more sustainable, re-imagined Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza and the Bronx’s Grand Concourse, and strengthened Long Island City’s art community, among many other projects and public programs.

About Added Value
Added Value (www.added-value.org) is a nonprofit organization promoting the sustainable
development of Red Hook by creating opportunities for South Brooklyn youth to expand their
knowledge base, develop new skills, and positively engage with their community through the
operation of a socially responsible urban farm. In August 2003 the City entered into a public-private partnership with Added Value to transform an underutilized playground into a vibrant
community resource where young and old work, study and grow together as they sow, nurture and harvest plants on a 2.75 acre urban farm.
