Welcome
to the Northeast Organic Farming Association NOFA-NY is the oldest and largest organization in New York devoted to organic and sustainable farming and gardening. We are an organization of consumers, gardeners and farmers creating a sustainable regional food system which is ecologically sound and economically viable. NOFA-NY's USDA-accredited organic certification program certifies over 90% of the certified organic farms in New York. NOFA-NY's The Farmer's Pledge program now includes over 100 farms. Since the founding of NOFA-NY in 1983, the number of both certified and uncertified organic farms has grown steadily, and organic gardening and landscaping is expanding rapidly as well. First as an all-volunteer organization and now with a small staff, NOFA-NY spreads the hands-on know how of organic food production through its newsletter, annual conferences, and on-farm workshops and field days. NOFA-NY also continues to advocate at the state and federal levels for legislation to enhance organic and sustainable food systems, and to maintain a strong National Organic Program that is attentive to small farms. Through demonstration and education, we promote land stewardship, organic food production, and local marketing. NOFA-NY has been bringing consumer and farmer closer together to make high quality food available to all people for over 27 years! NOFA-NY welcomes organic gardeners and farmers, farmers interested in converting from conventional to sustainable methods, and consumers interested in supporting the development of organic farming in the Northeast. NOFA-NY advocates ecological farming practices to eliminate the risks associated with the use of agricultural chemicals. NOFA-NY works to keep consumers informed about local, organic food choices and opportunities to be part of our growing regional food and farm market. NOFA-NY is governed by a volunteer Board of farmers, consumers, and gardeners whose officers are elected by the general membership. We are one of seven northeastern state organizations that work together called the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA). The states work cooperatively to publish The Natural Farmer, a quarterly publication featuring technical articles on organic farming, profiles of those in the field, and state chapter news. The states also hold an annual summer conference in August, featuring over 150 workshops for farmers, gardeners, homesteaders and consumers. The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York, Inc. is a non-profit educational organization supported by membership dues and contributions. NOFA-NY is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Charitable donations are welcome and tax deductible. A copy of our latest annual report may be obtained, upon request, from our office or from the Office of the NYS Attorney General, 120 Broadway, Albany, NY 12071. Thank you for supporting Organic Agriculture!
