  • SUMMER FARM CREW: Join our summer farm crew. The Ecosystem Farm is hiring crew members to help with planting, cultivation, and harvest of vegetables for our CSA program.  Positions through summer and possible longer-term available. Be involved in multiple aspects of organic vegetable production.  Applicants must have a strong desire to learn, to work hard, and to work well with others. Applicants should be reliable; physically capable, emotionally mature, and take pleasure in teamwork. Some prior experience in farming is preferred but not necessary. Work involves bending, kneeling, lifting up to 60 pounds, wielding large and small tools and implements, standing and moving for long stretches of time. Conditions range widely and during summer can be hot and humid.  Typical weeks are 40-55 hours and sometimes six days. There are some days when events cause us to work long and hard without stopping.   • 2 INTERNS WANTED:  Mountain Dell Farm seeks two apprentices for 2008 season through Thanksgiving.  We have been making our living as organic farmers since 1990. Our apprentices have gone on to become farmers, herbalists, chefs, agricultural educators and alternative health practitioners.  Apprenticeship includes private cabin, board, plus excellent stipend for 50-hour weeks.  Must know how to work hard, although farm experience is not necessary.  Labors include planting, weeding, picking and packing.  We live in a beautiful land in the foothills of the Catskills (the spiral crop circle at the top of this page is our farm).   • ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER NEEDED: Phillies Bridge Farm Project is hiring an Assistant Farm Manager for the remainder of the 2008 season.  This person will work with the Farm Manager in many aspects of running a six acre garden and caring for a small flock of sheep and laying hens.  The Assistant will also be involved in the day-to-day operation of a non-profit organization.  This is a perfect opportunity for someone who has completed a few farming internships and is looking for the next step.  Tractor and animal husbandry experience is a plus.  On-farm housing may be available. Vendors may rent a 10x10 selling space for the season for $50 or can pay by the day for $7/day. Discounts are available if vendors make their payments by April 15.   • FAMILY FARM APPRENTICESHIPS: Markristo Farm (founding CRAFT member) markets locally to restaurants, csa's, wholesale, and a Farmers' market. We are a couple (with 3 children) in our 20th year farming (30 acres) who thrive on the creative challenges of mind, body and spirit that are an integral part of this sustainable lifestyle. We are looking for three apprentices from March/April through November. $650 stipend/month plus modest end of season bonus possible. Apprentices stay in a small apartment on farm and/or an on-farm mobile home. Three meals /week are shared in farmhouse and apprentices are always welcome to farm produce. The workweek is 5 days plus Sat. Farmers' market. Apprentices are included in all aspects of the farm from greenhouse to field work, from managing equipment to marketing produce. We include our apprentices in the financial details of running a successful farm business and encourage everyone to think like a (full time/viable) farmer.
