RENEWABLE ENERGY INTERN for FALL '09: We
are a working farm with about 30 sheep, 20 goats, horses
(driving/work), and chickens. We have a small garden to feed our
needs and sell goat milk, meat, and lamb. For the past 5 years we
have focused much of our attention on renewable energy and currently
offer monthly workshops on renewable energy and also offer farm
tours. We have a straw bale house on our property for interns to stay
in. We currently have 2 interns, one for the garden/animals and one
to help with our renewable energy projects. We will be hiring a new
renewable energy intern for the Fall. This person must be
familiar with and have a strong knowledge about different forms of
renewable energy (PV, solar thermal, hydro, wind). Occasional help
around the farm is an additional part of this internship. Housing and

FARM
WORKER WANTED: We
are looking to add to our work force! We are a 1-acre organic
vegetable farm located at Sylvester Manor, a history-rich private
estate and former plantation on Shelter Island, NY (between Long
Island's north and south forks). This is our first year in operation.
This year we are taking the first steps in a much larger project: the
creation of an educational farm that will focus on food and culture.
Our responsibilities include managing the field and garden for our
25-member CSA and caring for our chickens and other livestock that
are on the way. We are all musicians and integrate that into our
work, whether it be singing in the fields or playing together in our
free time. Applicants need not have farm or instrumental/vocal
experience, but must be enthusiastic about farming, food, and music.
Good qualities to have are patience and creative problem-solving
(since we're a new farm there are kinks to work out). We provide
housing, a stipend of $300/week, and possibly music lessons! Call

State College is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer of the
Institute for Sustainability, who reports to the Provost. S/he is
responsible for overall management and leadership of the Institute
consistent with its mission and goals; promotes the advancement of
sustainability at Alfred State College and Western New York through
delivery of training programs, as well as public outreach and
partnerships; and is responsible for all aspects of fundraising, and
for development of the annual operating budget and plan of work for
the Institute. The incumbent has four main areas of responsibility:
program development & delivery, public relations and advocacy,
fundraising & finances, and administration and institute
oversight. The successful candidate will possess at least five years
of experience in project administration, advocacy, community
organizing, or government relations, demonstrated success in revenue
generation, especially grant writing and fund raising, the ability to
juggle competing priorities, manage multiple projects, and make
decisions under pressure, a willingness to travel as needed, the
ability to work as part of a team, excellent verbal and writing
skills, strong interest in sustainability/environmental policy and
politics, ambition for the Institute and a strong motivation to

Farm Project is in need of a Grower to work in partnership with the
Farm Manager on our 70-acre farm in New Paltz, NY for remainder of
2009 Season. With 5 acres in cultivation, we sustainably grow a
diversity of mixed vegetables for a CSA and local restaurants.
Berries, eggs, pastured chicken and grass-fed beef are also raised on
the farm and available to our members. We are looking for someone
with initiative, desire to work cooperatively with others, tractor

Audubon is currently seeking an intern to help facilitate and ensure
the success of a new organic vegetable operation located at our
340-acre headquarters in Katonah, New York. Interns will work with
our horticultural experts in developing an innovative program that
will include demonstration organic gardening, native plant gardening,
chemical-free lawn care, wetland buffer restoration to homeowners,
families, students, intergenerational gardeners and the general
public. Horticulture skills, public presentation skills, a passion
for working outside and for educating the public about beneficial
ecological practices are all preferred. Internship period:

The Pfeiffer Center internship, a twelve-month residential program,
is a unique opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of Biodynamics in
a setting that blends intensive garden work with unique academic
opportunities. The Pfeiffer Center internship is intended for
students in agriculture and environmental sciences and related
fields, as well as other individuals who want to broaden and deepen
their understanding of organic sustainable agriculture and the
Biodynamic approach. Some gardening experience and familiarity with
biodynamics is helpful but not necessary. Candidates must be
physically fit and capable of long hours of strenuous work with hand
tools. Also helpful are an open mind and a positive disposition.
Openings are anticipated for Spring, 2009 and Late summer/fall 2009.
