Due Dates & Timeframes
The first year of the certification process is a lengthier process than in succeeding years.
THE AVERAGE TIME FRAME FOR A FIRST YEAR APPLICATION IS AS FOLLOWS:
- November & December: Maple Syrup producers may request Applications and review Standards.
- January & February: Crop Producers may obtain Applications and review Standards.

February 15: Maple Applications are due.
Approximate Inspection Date: Feb./March
Approximate Completion Date: April/May -
March 15: Crop Applications are due.
Approximate Inspection Date: May/June
Approximate Completion Date: July/August -
March 15-May 1: Crop Applications received between these dates are subject to a $75 late fee.
Approximate Inspection Date: July/August
Approximate Completion Date: Sept./Oct. -
May 1-August 30: Applications received between these dates are subject to a $150 late fee.
Approximate Inspection Date: August/Sept.
Approximate Completion Date: Oct./Nov. - After August 31: Applications received after this date are subject to the $150 late fee and are not guaranteed completion before the end of the year
Please Note: in the first year of certification, early crops such as 1st cutting hay, asparagus and strawberries may not be certified in time to market as organic. In succeeding years there is no lapse in certification (providing Annual Information Update occurs).
