Late Blight Detection Kits

Quick, easy, and reasonably-priced test kits are available for detecting Phytophthora in plant tissue. While they are not specific for late blight, that is the only Phytophthora expected on infected foliage.

Having test kits on hand will help when you want a diagnosis right away, when pathogen sporulation is not visible or is not distinguishable from gray mold or when green foliage is wilted.

Remember that it is critical to share information if late blight is confirmed.  Pathologists (e.g. Bill Fry in NY--see contact info below) want a sample to track and determine genotype.
