Position Title
Whole Farm Intern
Position Description
Apprentices will learn from the diversity of our farm by participating in all aspects of growing, harvesting, and marketing vegetables and flowers, and learning animal husbandry, including poultry processing. Experiencing the interrelationships between the crops and animals is an important component of the internship. Interns will work very closely with a farmer, experiencing hands-on experience and the opportunity for discussion and questions. If interns have, or develop, an interest in a particular area we will try to nurture that interest. We also participate in the CRAFT program (Cooperative Regional Alliance of Farmer Training). This program provides apprentices with biweekly visits to other area farms to study specific agricultural topics and network with other apprentices. Interns might arrange with their colleges to receive credit for the internship, and we encourage students to investigate this possibility. Our workweek is challenging (5 and a half days and up to 60 hours), but rewarding. Our diverse 175-acre farm includes 10 acres of organic vegetables and flowers, pasture-raised chickens, turkeys, and pork, winter holiday decor, and maple syrup. Our products are marketed through our CSA, a farm-stand, and year-round at the Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market. Please apply in writing (e-mail or US mail). Include a short letter of intent with your reasons for desiring this apprenticeship, what you hope to gain from, and give to, this experience, along with your resume and three references.
