Liberty Farms is a picturesque Certified Organic Farm on 300+ acres in the heart of Columbia County, NY. We offer seasonal vegetables and flowers, grass-fed meats, and eggs alongside a state-of-the-art horse boarding and dressage training facility. The property also offers a stunning site for weddings and special events.

Position Description: The Garden at Liberty Farms, currently has about 6.5 acres of diversified organic/biodynamic vegetable and flower production, focusing on high quality and high production. Garden manager will oversee all the to the day-to-day aspects of running a market/CSA garden. From crop planning, to planting, to managing the crew to keeping up with records and staying in compliance with NOFA-NY Organic standards.
About the Farm: Liberty Farms is a unique in that it has multiple enterprises under one certified Organic farm, The Garden- Vegetable and Flowers for markets and CSA, The Equestrian Center, The Livestock Farm- offering grass-fed/pastured meats and eggs, hay and compost operation. We also have a farm stand on site, and beautiful event venue hosting Barn Weddings, we lease some land out to Collective Hudson Valley who offer 'Glamping' in one of our remote hay fields. Much of the farm is located at our Main Farm 114 Ostrander Rd, however we do grow hay and graze animals on 2 other neighboring farms. Our farm is run with highly skilled managers in each of the enterprises, and assistant mangers at their sides. We have yearly local farm hands, apprentices and college students that come and learn about the future of farming and the need for sustainability in agriculture. The owners of the farm, are actively involved in the running of farm as a whole, and visit regularly.

We have highly skilled Organic/ Biodynamic farmers leading the Equestrian Center and the Livestock Farming. We are seeking as highly motivated vegetable grower with passion and skill to take on our Garden. This could be a long term position with the opportunity to grow and develop the current vegetable operation.
Job Description: To oversee the production of vegetables and flowers. This includes it all from planning, to implementing the plan, to managing the harvests. Ability to be detail oriented and train seasonal staff/ interns. Will be joining our current crew! Our marketing/ garden liaison ( helps with deliveries, marketing, inventory, office work, tours and whole sale accounts). We have a highly skilled assistant gardener, 2-4 crew members and 2-4 seasonal summer college interns.
Knowledge and Skills:
• 3-5 years of hands on farm experience, organic methods.
• Developing and implementing crop plan, planting and harvesting schedule
• Experienced with supervising staff.
• Familiarity with range of farm machinery
• Ability to drive the tractor and farm truck – valid licenses
• Maintenance of machinery and infrastructure in the garden
• Oversee and plan for greenhouse propagation
• Track all farm operation data; crop plans, planting schedule, harvest log
• Soil nutrient management
• Composting plan for the vegetable production
• Weekly harvest plan
• Familiarity with crops and their value.
• Support for all farm infrastructure including buildings, greenhouses, irrigation, drainage
• Supervise farm team
• Computer skills
• Maintain farm to all code – NOFA- NY, manage inspections
• Operate harvest, washing, packing according to GAP and FSMA specs
• Operate in accordance with organic certification methods for weed/pest/composting
• Participate in all on-farm educational and volunteer programs and events
• participate/support other areas of the farm if needed

Disposition: A well rounded temperament with the ability to keep the big picture in view is ideal. Being able to communicate the needs of the task at hand in an objective manner is a key element in managing. The glass half full viewpoint is also helpful. The ability to work day after day without fail, and to excel in the highest standards are expected. The ability to lift 50lbs min. No hay allergies. Dedicated hard worker that is a team player is essential and a willingness to learn and improve one's skills.
