Position Title
Farm Apprenticeship
Position Description
Yoga Vida—a premiere yoga studio with four locations in New York City—is dedicated to delivering an outstanding and affordable experience to wellness enthusiasts. The company’s dedication to wellness has driven them to open a retreat center in January 2019. Yoga Vida Farms will demonstrate healthy living through its regenerative farm, fresh food, and its yoga and meditation programming. We aim to build a culture of wellness through managing a healthy soil, revitalizing our bodies with fresh food, and practicing mindfulness through yoga and meditation. The centerpiece for the retreat center is its 62-acre estate and vegetarian-minded farm in the middle of the 30,000-acre State Park two-hours north of New York City and twenty-miles west of New Paltz.

Our apprentice program aims to teach skills necessary to be fluent in regenerative food and agriculture under the mentorship of Farm Director and Executive Chef Davis Lindsey, while learning about the yoga and ayurveda traditions. Apprentices will gain operational experience in the Yoga Vida Farms food production systems, which includes its 3-acre diversified vegetable field, propagation and greenhouse spaces, orchard, small flock of laying hens, apiary, waste management system, and commercial kitchen for retreat guests. The intention is to grow the majority of the food needed for the retreat center on the 62-acre property while learning how to operate and manage these key systems on the farm while helping create the final product in the kitchen. A few roles and responsibilities for apprentices will include seed starting, greenhouse management and season extension, small-machinery operation, irrigation systems, small orchard and poultry management, and preserving vegetables, herbs, and other foodstuff.

Applicants should be passionate about regenerative agriculture, sustainability, and the culinary arts. Prior knowledge about yoga is a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with experience and skills in one or more of these areas. Your ability to lift at least 50 pounds, perform tasks outside in all weather conditions, prepare food, and to be a positive team member is essential. Apprentices must be U.S. citizens or green card holders.

To apply, please email Davis Lindsey at davis@yogavida.com with a resume and cover letter that answers the following: Why do you want to work at Yoga Vida Farms, what skills in cooking, farming, and food production can you bring to your apprenticeship, and which production areas are you most interested in learning about and why? The deadline for applications is January 11, 2019. This is a 36-week apprenticeship, running from March 11 to November 16, with an opportunity to take on more responsibility moving forward. Compensation is commensurate upon experience and will be discussed during the interview process. Housing is not included. Having a mode of transportation and communication device is preferred.
