The purpose of NOFA-NY’s policy work is to advocate for a sustainable, local, organic food and farm system within New York State. We also work collaboratively with the other NOFA statewide chapters, as well as the National Organic Coalition and other groups on regional, national and international policy issues.
As the foundation for our actions, we have adopted the Principles of Organic Agriculture of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). These principles emphasize health, ecology, fairness, and care. They allow us to take a position on important issues such as the integrity of the National Organic Program, and provide support for GMO labeling efforts.
